Are You Up for the Challenge?

Who couldn’t use $10,000? I don’t know many people who would turn it down? Would you? If you answered, “HECK NO!” Then I’ve got a deal you’d be crazy to refuse!

You have a 1 in 10 chance of winning $10,000! It’s true. Ten credit unions in central Ohio, including Hopewell Federal, Fiberglas Federal and Harvest Federal, right here in Licking County, have joined together to offer the BET YOU CAN SAVE CHALLENGE!

Each CU will choose one family from their credit union to participate. All 10 families will work with financial coaches to set goals and increase their savings! The family coming closest to or exceeding their established goals will be declared the winner and will win $10,000!!!

Runner Up families will receive $500!

So, you could win and you’ll still better your overall financial picture-sounds like a good deal doesn’t it? Either way to me you’ll get rewarded. We always say, we’re here to help you get ahead financially, but getting out of debt takes some hard work and some sacrifices on your part to help you save.  No bailouts here.

To be eligible you must be a citizen or legal resident of the United States.

Must be a CU member in good standing.

Must demonstrate a NEED for a savings makeover and a willingness to significantly improve your financial situation.

Pick up your application at either one of our offices or print it off on-line and bring it in to Hopewell Federal.  For more information visit

And good luck to you all-hurry though, application deadline is Thursday, April 30th!

Discover the CU Difference

Credit unions are celebrating 100 years this year. A very important milestone. I’ve personally been involved with credit unions for 40 years, I could talk about them literally all day long.  And when my staff comes up to me and asks me if I saw the Today Show this morning, and what BIG BANKS are doing to customers and their credit card rates…the same banks that received bailout money…well, nothing gets me more inspired and fired up  then to share how credit unions, not just here at Hopewell Federal, but all across the country are NOT reacting the same way.

Our members are our owners, so we want to see them succeed. Do you own your bank?

The Huffington Post has a great blog post about CU’s this week, which is great, anytime the CU industry gets positive press, I can safely say that we all appreciate it. But I’m here to tell you that this is not the time to take a back seat to your financial future. I invite you to watch this quick update about the safety and strength of credit unions, and how we’re all doing business as usual, because we put people over profit. For more, click on the link:

So why are you staying with your bank? Make the switch to a CU today!

A Commitment to Our Community

We care about you and Licking County. That’s why we say, we’re here to help you get ahead finanically. We want to help provide real solutions to help you achieve your goals.

We also love to give back. I’d be remiss if I didn’t share this with you. Our certified financial counselor, Eli Martin, held an internal challege between the Heath Office and the Newark Office that if he raised enough money for Big Brothers/Big Sisters Bowl For Kids Sake. That the winning office would get to PIE him in the face. They even got to choose what kind of pie! My vote was for cherry, but they went easy on him and went with a special chocolate pie.

We YouTubed the entire thing. Take a look…

Statewide Event to Help Kids Kicks Off this Weekend

I have been proud to be a part of the credit union movement for the last 40 years, but I’m even more proud when we get to take part in something so special, that can help so many, that I had to share it with you.

This Sunday, April 3rd, Hopewell Federal’s North 21st Street office has been selected to be the host credit union for the launching of this year’s Marching Miles for Miracle Kids statewide effort.

Marching Miles is an Ohio statewide event to support the Children’s Miracle Network and Ohio’s Children’s Hospitals. The event happens annually in April and coincides with the Ohio Credit Union League’s Annual Convention and the Cherry Blossum Run in Washington, D.C.

The event consists of a relay-style march, beginning in one part of the state, which this year, is at our office in Newark. It will wrap-up at the Ohio Credit Union League’s convention site this year, in Cleveland. Marchers raise donations for the event and this year’s goal is to raise $125,000.  Our walkers will be going from North 21st Street , head north on route 13 and work their way to CES Credit Union in Utica. It’s not an easy task, but then again, neither is taking on childhood ailments.

Too busy to walk? Not a problem! You can still set up your own online site to raise money for the event. Once you register you’ll have your very own personalized web page that you can use to solicit donations. Email the link to your friends and family. Your donations will go to your local children’s hospital.

Friends, this is such an exciting effort that will do so much good for special children throughout Ohio. And we’re excited to welcome Kimmi, this year’s child.

Registration for the walk begins at 7:45 a.m. and a brief presentation will begin at 8:30 a.m. So join us, won’t you? This kind of statewide effort, is just the kind of thing that the residents of Licking County, like to wrap their arms around and embrace, because Licking County loves to give back!  We’d love to see you there!
